One of the first decisions you'll make when planning your move to Australia is how your belongings will travel. At Easy as™, we offer two options — a shared container (LCL) or a full container (FCL) — and the right choice depends on one thing: how much you're shipping.

Here's everything you need to know to make the right call before you get your quote.

LCL — Less than Container Load

LCL means your belongings share a container with other shipments heading to Australia. You only pay for the cubic metres your goods actually occupy — not the entire container.

This is the right choice if:

  • You're moving from a studio, one, or two-bedroom home
  • You're shipping a partial household — not everything, just the things worth bringing
  • You want the most cost-effective option for a smaller move

How it works:

Your goods are professionally packed and loaded by our team, then transported to our depot where they're carefully consolidated into a shared container alongside other vetted shipments. The container sails on a regular schedule — typically fortnightly from Auckland — and your goods are unloaded and delivered once the container arrives and clears customs in Australia.

What to know:

Because you're sharing a container, your collection date is aligned with other shipments heading to the same destination. At Easy as™, we coordinate this carefully and keep you updated throughout the process so there are no surprises.

FCL — Full Container Load

FCL means the entire container is yours. Nothing else goes in, nothing else comes out. Just your belongings, from your door in New Zealand to your door in Australia.

This is the right choice if:

  • You're moving a three, four, or five-bedroom home
  • You want the simplicity and security of a dedicated container
  • You're moving with a large family and shipping everything

How it works:

Our team comes to your home and professionally packs and loads everything onto our truck. Your belongings are then transported to our depot, loaded into your dedicated container, and shipped directly to Australia. A 20ft container suits most three to four-bedroom homes. A 40ft container handles the largest moves.

What to know:

FCL gives you more control over your timeline. Because the container is yours, the collection and sailing schedule is built around your move — not shared with others.

The Cost Difference — What to Expect

LCL is priced by cubic metre — you pay for what you use. FCL is a flat rate for the whole container, which makes it more economical once your volume reaches a certain point.

The crossover — where FCL becomes better value than LCL — typically happens around the three-bedroom mark. But every move is different, and the right answer depends on exactly what you're shipping.

This is why getting an accurate quote matters. At Easy as™, we assess your inventory and recommend the option that gives you the best value for your specific move — not the one that's easiest for us.
